Carnival in Trinidad

February, 1997

In February, I returned to Trinidad for Carnival, along with 10 Austin friends.

The flight to Trinidad was through Curacao, where I spent two nights visitng this unusual desert-like tropical island.

After a few years of slack attendence, the Austin gang took over the top floor of La Calypso hotel once again. The party starts at 2 AM Monday morning, when everyone dances in the streets of Port of Spain until at least dawn; some go "straight thru..." for 46 hours.

Rob is looking for girls from the La Calypso balcaony:

"Nothing here, he growls..."

Glenn scouts the beach:

"Nuddin here neither....."

Jack and Rob also scan the beach.

Finally, Rob yells: "There's One !! "

I don't have a photo, but my friends say at one point I lost the group for an hour, and when I found them again I was covered head to toe in bright blue body paint!
